About FamilyTimeDIY

Hello! My name is Amber. I'm a proud mother of two and I'm so excited to share our journey with you. Everyday our kids are getting a little bit older, and it seems as though their childhood is just slipping away. I think we all want our kids to be able to look back on their childhood fondly and to believe that Mom and Dad did the best they could. This site is dedicated to sharing the best tips, tricks and gems of advice that we have learned and/or created for building the happiest of core memories without overextending your resources.

I am a huge believer in doing what you can, where you are with what you have. There is no need to wait until you have saved enough for the dream vacation or the big expensive toys or electronics that every other kid seems to have. This site is dedicated to sharing epic ideas for memories you can make right in your own home.

Family Movie Nights

Family movie theme nights were created, at first, to get my kids to sit through the old movies that I thought were classics. I wanted them to know who the Chesiree Cat and the Mad Hatter were. But they were born into this fast-paced on demand world, how would they ever sit through a cartoon made in 1951? Not to mention the live action favorites like Hook or Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I created immersive movie experiences so that they would stay engaged and create lasting memories. The kids love these nights. They remember them fondly and are always looking forward to the next one. My son is always impressed when he understands a reference to a film he has seen, that he otherwise might not have watched. And they are often asking if we can repeat their favorites and invite their friends over. This is not your ordinary family movie night. This is an event. This is a small party that can be done on a tiny budget but still create big epic memories.

Stress Less

Our family has learned so much over the last several years. We used to be constantly overwhelmed, anxious, tired and always seeming to be just on the verge of breaking. Certainly, we still have our occasional bad moments and some rare bad days. But the amount of joy we experience in just the day to day with our kids currently is so priceless, it would be shameful to keep it to ourselves. I am far from perfect and some things that worked for me may not work for everyone. However, every step we take to improve life for our kids is a step in the right direction. Little by little, one thing at a time, you can build stronger connections with your kids and love your life!
